Education stands as an indispensable tool for empowerment, capable of igniting change, dismantling barriers, and nurturing inclusivity. The projects that the Regenerative Travel Impact Awards seek to highlight are those that not only deepen the impact of education but also widen its reach, ensuring that knowledge becomes a guide that transcends borders and bridges divides. These projects understand that the true power of education lies not only in what it imparts but in how it engages diverse minds and nurtures a collective sense of empathy and interconnectedness.

The Regenerative Travel Impact Awards explore the globe in search of visionary changemakers, we celebrate not only the power of education but also its potential to inspire positive action that resonates far beyond the classroom. By embracing the transformative capacity of education to reshape our perceptions, elevate our empathy, and incite lasting change, these awards illuminate a path towards a future where regeneration is not just a concept, but a way of life that is nurtured and shared by all.

ABC Female Guides Program: Guiding Change, African Bush Camps’ Vision for Female Safari Guides – Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia

In 2006, the African Bush Camps Foundation was established as a testament to ABC’s dedication to community collaboration and conservation excellence. This visionary foundation works closely with communities near ABC camps in Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana, aiming to enhance lives and establish sustainable conservation through education, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship. Addressing challenges like unemployment, food scarcity, inadequate infrastructure, wildlife poaching, and resource preservation, the foundation’s collective efforts resonate across the region.

A standout initiative within this framework is the Female Guides program, launched in November 2021. Breaking gender norms in a region where most safari guides are male, this program empowers women with comprehensive training. Spanning two years, it offers theory, practical instruction, and immersive on-the-job training within ABC camps, in partnership with the African Guiding Academy. This intensive preparation equips women to become proficient safari guides, fostering confidence and expertise in wildlife, conservation, photography, communication, and more. The program’s emergence of female leaders reshapes traditional norms, embodying transformation, empowerment, and a new era of equality and conservation consciousness in the safari domain.
