Tranquilo Bay

Rainforest adventure awaits

Adjacent to Isla Bastimentos National Marine Park sits Tranquilo Bay, an adventure eco-lodge. With a range of excursions on offer here, this resort has truly earned its title. Choosing from island hopping to hiking, snorkeling to kayaking, and surfing to wildlife tours, there is something here for everyone. With abundant wildlife all around, expect to see sloths, a multitude of birds, spotted eagle rays, white-faced capuchins, rare tropical insects, iguanas and everyone’s favorite ocean dwellers – dolphins.

Tranquilo Bay is situated on Bastimentos Island, in the archipelago of Bocas Del Toro, on the northern Caribbean coast of Panama. The lodge is sensitively positioned among the convergence of three ecosystems, providing a spectacular opportunity to comfortably immerse yourself in one of the most biologically diverse places on earth. Flights run daily from Panama City to Bocas Town, where you’ll be whisked away on a 25-minute speedboat ride to Tranquilo Bay.

Fish the Wild Western Caribbean Coast with Local Fishermen
The secluded western Caribbean coast of Panama is wild and undeveloped, which is exactly what makes fishing these waters so remarkable. Local fishermen in Bocas del Toro fish year-round for snapper, jacks and barracuda.

Regenerative Impact

At Tranquilo Bay, eco tourism isn’t just a catchy marketing phrase used to attract guests; it’s a way of life.

12
Tranquilo Bay used eco-friendly renewable, reusable, or recyclable materials (wood, steel, and concrete) to construct its buildings. These buildings do not require extensive maintenance nor replacement on a regular basis. It limits its use of local hardwoods to combat de-forestation.
Tranquilo Bay brings raw materials in the largest quantity feasible and then makes as much of its food as possible onsite. It sources majority of its foodstuff from within Panama. Tranquilo Bay bakes its own breads and desserts each day and grows a fair amount of fruit and herbs on site.
Tranquilo Bay limits its use of fossil fuels where possible by maintaining travel days to and from Isla Colon, monitoring alternatives for power generation, and working on fuel efficiency for transportation. Employees who are not from within a short boat ride’s distance live onsite. Those that do not live onsite boatpool to work.
Tranquilo Bay’s owners designed the lodge to leave the smallest footprint on its lush environment. Of the 200 acres of land it owns, it has limited development on only 8 acres. Additionally, it has been actively working to preserve and protect more than 80 acres of its nature preserve.

Pioneering in Pokhara, Nepal: The Story of Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge

Historically a commercial hub connecting India and Tibet, Pokhara evolved to be a metropolitan city with far more to offer than just trade. Tucked into the Himalayas and sitting on the picturesque Phewa Lake, Pokhara let nature lead the way. The name for Nepal’s second largest city comes from the Nepali word “Pokhari” meaning “pond” so it’s no surprise that natural formations are Pokhara’s greatest protagonist.

Key Lessons from 3 Caribbean Hotels Leading the Way in Regenerative Practices

We explore leading examples of regenerative tourism practices being implemented by three Caribbean hotels such as Hamanasi Resort in Belize, Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia and Rockhouse Hotel in Jamaica at our panel discussion hosted by Davines in Brooklyn, New York. These organizations are not only adopting regenerative practices, but they are also helping to educate people on the importance of sustainability and creating programs to put regulations in place.
