At Sterrekopje, food is more than sustenance—it is a philosophy rooted in seasonality, respect for the land, and a commitment to minimizing waste. They grow, harvest, and raise many of their own ingredients while collaborating with local artisans and producers who share their values. This approach goes beyond traditional farm-to-table dining, recognizing that the journey of food begins long before it reaches the plate, in the health of the soil and the biodiversity of the land. By cultivating indigenous and heritage plants without synthetic chemicals, they honor the natural rhythms of the earth, ensuring each harvest is not only fresh and nutrient-rich but also reflective of the unique ecosystems they nurture. Every meal is a celebration of flavor, sustainability, and community—one that supports local economies, reduces environmental impact, and fosters a deeper connection to both food and the land that provides it. Through this mindful approach, Sterrekopje encourages an awareness of where food comes from, how it is grown, and the profound ways it influences both body and environment, reinforcing the interconnectedness of all living things.
Sterrekopje is a working farm with cows, chickens, pigs, horses, and ducks. They have a dedicated team that ensures the welfare of all their animals, with two key team members focused solely on their welfare.
Biodiversity is central to this philosophy; they grow more than 60 varietals of indigenous and heritage plants, creating a thriving, symbiotic ecosystem that not only supports the land but also enriches the surrounding wildlife. Each plant is carefully chosen for its unique properties, allowing them to cultivate a landscape that celebrates resilience, balance, and regeneration.
A full recycling program is implemented at Sterrekopje, along with a natural water treatment process and no use of hazardous chemicals. The architecture utilizes natural insulation and airflow to minimize the use of air conditioning and central heating.
