Skylark Negril Beach Resort

A beachfront paradise on the glistening Caribbean sea

The Caribbean island of Jamaica has long been the go-to destination for the embodiment of paradise and R&R. Set in the heart of Negril’s Seven Mile Beach, Skylark is perfectly situated to have everything you could want within easy reach. Chanelling a 60s and 70s aesthetic throughout each of the 28 rooms, the hotel puts your relaxation first, through a holistic spa, plenty of ocean activities and all the boutique amenities.

An islandwide effort to improve education for Jamaican children and support those who teach them through The Rockhouse Foundation, named after their sister property and fellow Regenerative Travel Member, Rockhouse Hotel, stands Skylark apart from your average beach retreat.  With over 7million USD dedicated to the foundation’s extensive initiatives to date, Skylark offers those who stay with them the opportunity to support the people that make Jamaica what it is.

Skylark is an opportunity to get to know authentic Jamaican culture and responsibly appreciate the enchanting heritage behind the island.

Skylark prides itself on hiring a staff of 100% Jamaican nationals and offer personal growth opportunities for all staff members as well as generous health benefits. In addition to this, staff are encouraged to chat and connect with guests to offer their own stories and experiences. Skylark has also ensured that the local community are consulted in major decisions and efforts are made to make stays accessible to locals.
In understanding the importance of a true Caribbean experience for those who visit, Skylark strives to honour the rich cultural heritage of the island and the region through serving traditional dishes at the onsite restaurant, encouraging staff to create authentic personal experiences as part of their role and by supporting local opportunities such as music, art and outdoors adventures.
The site follows a number of initiatives to minimise its environmental impact, such as avoiding single-use plastics where possible, following a strict recycling programme, limiting energy consumption across the site, limiting supply chains and using architectural designs that work in harmony with the local environment.
Skylark Negril equally supports the efforts its sister hotel’s foundation, the Rockhouse Foundation, a US and Jamaican charity which works to transform where Jamaican children learn and support those who teach them. The Foundation has dedicated over 7million USD to community initiatives to date

Pioneering in Pokhara, Nepal: The Story of Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge

Historically a commercial hub connecting India and Tibet, Pokhara evolved to be a metropolitan city with far more to offer than just trade. Tucked into the Himalayas and sitting on the picturesque Phewa Lake, Pokhara let nature lead the way. The name for Nepal’s second largest city comes from the Nepali word “Pokhari” meaning “pond” so it’s no surprise that natural formations are Pokhara’s greatest protagonist.

Key Lessons from 3 Caribbean Hotels Leading the Way in Regenerative Practices

We explore leading examples of regenerative tourism practices being implemented by three Caribbean hotels such as Hamanasi Resort in Belize, Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia and Rockhouse Hotel in Jamaica at our panel discussion hosted by Davines in Brooklyn, New York. These organizations are not only adopting regenerative practices, but they are also helping to educate people on the importance of sustainability and creating programs to put regulations in place.
