Regenerative Impact

Playa Viva invites you to enjoy the rugged, unspoiled beauty of Mexico in the guilt-free luxury of an environmentally conscious resort dedicated to sustainability and regenerative practices.

With Promoting Meaningful Community as one of its core values, Playa Viva develops programs centered on health, education, and economic development that benefit the Juluchuca community.
Playa Viva defines farm to table using organically grown products and prioritizing local ingredients. The resort’s farm team focuses on nutrient-dense crops, including dark greens, nuts and seeds, fresh fruits and, most recently, farm- and forest-raised animal products.
Playa Viva’s permaculture team uses both local knowledge and scientific analysis to understand the landscape, set carbon sequestration goals for Playa Viva’s forests, and identify the most appropriate trees to introduce through reforestation. Using permaculture principles and reforestation through a lens of agroforestry design, Playa Viva works to improve the soil’s ability to retain water and begin to turn its sandy earth into microbial rich loamy soil that will benefit future generations.
With sustainability deeply embedded in its core values, Playa Viva was built from the bottom up with regenerative principles in mind. It runs on a 100% off-grid solar system, uses smart water design to conserve water and replenish the local aquifer with even cleaner water, and uses renewable building materials harvested on site as well as fixtures crafted by local artisans.

Pioneering in Pokhara, Nepal: The Story of Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge

Historically a commercial hub connecting India and Tibet, Pokhara evolved to be a metropolitan city with far more to offer than just trade. Tucked into the Himalayas and sitting on the picturesque Phewa Lake, Pokhara let nature lead the way. The name for Nepal’s second largest city comes from the Nepali word “Pokhari” meaning “pond” so it’s no surprise that natural formations are Pokhara’s greatest protagonist.

Key Lessons from 3 Caribbean Hotels Leading the Way in Regenerative Practices

We explore leading examples of regenerative tourism practices being implemented by three Caribbean hotels such as Hamanasi Resort in Belize, Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia and Rockhouse Hotel in Jamaica at our panel discussion hosted by Davines in Brooklyn, New York. These organizations are not only adopting regenerative practices, but they are also helping to educate people on the importance of sustainability and creating programs to put regulations in place.
