Emboo River

Emboo River

Revel in the tranquility and endless wilderness at one of Kenya’s most elegant off-grid safari camps.

Located in the majestic Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya, Emboo River offers a slice of heaven amidst the wilderness. Home to the Great Migrations and operating in harmony with nature, Emboo River takes inspiration for everything it does from the Maasai saying “Mataramat enkop pee eramat iyook”, meaning “If you take care of Nature, Nature will take care of you”.

As a steward and preserver of Maasai traditions and lands, Emboo River places sustainability, nature and wildlife above all else. Operating entirely on solar power and with a fleet of solely electric safari vehicles, Emboo River is pioneering unique safari experiences that don’t emit disturbing engine noises and are wholly respectful of the wilderness and wildlife that represent the Maasai Mara’s life force.

Regenerative Impact

Founded with a profound respect for its local surroundings, community and wildlife, Emboo River offers off-grid luxury in the heart of the savannah with extremely minimal impact.

Emboo River Guides
100% powered by solar energy, Emboo River uses no generators, noise or fossil fuels to feed its operations, resulting in minimal noise pollution and environmental impact. 100% of Emboo River’s wastewater is treated thanks to a system of 3 lagoons with 2 species of wetland plants that filter and purify the water; water use is carefully monitored and ambitious reduction targets are set. Food waste is converted into biogas for cooking and as fertilizer at the on-site farm. No single-use plastics are used, or even permitted.
Driven by its commitment to redefine bush luxury, Emboo River has 2 acres dedicated to an organic garden. This includes an innovative hydroponic farm with vertical gardens, a smart drip irrigation system and vermicomposting. Organic honey is also produced from the lodge’s 17 beehives.
Emboo River has partnered with the Kenyan government to contribute to making the Maasai Mara carbon neutral by 2030. Emboo River’s natural swimming pool was created by a local team and the rooms and communal areas were decorated by women from the Maasai community. Emboo River’s Innovation Hub provides tailor-made consultancy services to schools, community projects and local governing bodies to help create sustainable supply chains and conserve resources.
Emboo River’s fleet of safari vehicles are all electric, providing safari experiences that create no noise to avoid disturbing the animals and no emissions to avoid harming the wilderness. Guests are also invited to plant trees in the savannah to offset the CO2 emissions of their transport from Nairobi.
