Cherero Camp

Discover awe-inspiring landscapes and wilderness at one of Tanzania’s most elegant safari camps.

Located in the heart of Serengeti National Park, Cherero Camp offers a slice of heaven amidst the wilderness. Home to the Great Migrations and true natural wonder, feel the extraordinary surroundings of the Serengeti’s majestic wildlife, including huge herds of gazelle, wildebeest and galloping zebras. With no other camps in sight, escape to some of Tanzania’s most remote lands and truly immerse yourself in the music of nature.

As one of Kantiable Afrika’s two eco-friendly dwellings, Cherero Camp was founded on the principle of doing things the right way – placing integrity, purpose and harmony above all else. Maintaining the health of the land – and the communities that reside within it – have remained a primary focus since Kantiable’s inception. Built with no permanent constructions, for example, Cherero Camp was designed to be moved entirely without leaving a lasting trace on both the Serengeti and the earth.

Highlights & Activities

Embark on a majestic game drive
Set off at sunrise on this intimate wildlife safari. Carefully positioned in the quieter reaches of the Serengeti, take advantage of this prime opportunity to spot the "big five" of the savannah – elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and Cape buffalo – with no one else around except your own personal private guide. In order to preserve natural wildlife migration patterns, guide vehicles are not allowed to go off-road, and well-trained guides prioritize guest education, allowing visitors to develop a stronger appreciation for their unique privilege as well as a deeper respect for the animals they are allowed to witness.

Regenerative Impact

Founded with a deep respect for its local food systems, artisans and animals, Cherero Camp strives to both preserve and honor life on the savannah.

With electricity and hot water powered by solar, each of Cherero Camp’s luxury tents rests on a platform of locally sourced teak timber, reflecting the camp’s commitment to sustainability. In fact, there are no permanent structures at any of Kantabile’s (Cherero’s family company) eco-lodges, allowing the company to minimize its impact on the local ecosystem as much as possible. Glass refillable toiletries and water carafes in every tent help reduce the need for single-use plastics.
With a 100% Tanzanian staff population, Cherero Camp prides itself on its “home grown” and empowering employment philosophy, focusing more on employee character and work ethic than formal education (as most of the local population lacks access to formal training opportunities). This contributes to developing the Tanzanian culture of warmth and hospitality, which the resort takes great pride in. Additionally, ex-poachers are hired as askaris, or camp guards, providing them with the fulfilling regular income source necessary to leave poaching behind. Local residents enjoy generous discounted rates of up to 50% off, ensuring equitable access for local communities, and the resort is a proud supporter of the Days for Girls program, which helps provide reusable pads and reproductive health education for rural primary schools.
Handcrafted furniture designed by local artisans decorates each tent’s spacious 500 square foot interior, and fresh, locally-sourced meals not only reduce negative agricultural impacts but also highlight Cherero’s respect for the local culture and environment. Cherero Camp is also a member of Africa Geographic, a private travel and conservation club for travelers who want their safaris to make a real difference to communities on the African continent.
Driven by its commitment to redefine bush luxury, each space and experience at Cherero Camp has been meticulously designed to immerse guests in the wonders of the Serengeti without compromising comfort. Exclusively located in a Great Migration corridor free of outside sound and light pollution, guests receive unparalleled viewing access to local wildlife, from wildebeests to lions, all without needing to leave their tents.

Pioneering in Pokhara, Nepal: The Story of Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge

Historically a commercial hub connecting India and Tibet, Pokhara evolved to be a metropolitan city with far more to offer than just trade. Tucked into the Himalayas and sitting on the picturesque Phewa Lake, Pokhara let nature lead the way. The name for Nepal’s second largest city comes from the Nepali word “Pokhari” meaning “pond” so it’s no surprise that natural formations are Pokhara’s greatest protagonist.

Key Lessons from 3 Caribbean Hotels Leading the Way in Regenerative Practices

We explore leading examples of regenerative tourism practices being implemented by three Caribbean hotels such as Hamanasi Resort in Belize, Jade Mountain in Saint Lucia and Rockhouse Hotel in Jamaica at our panel discussion hosted by Davines in Brooklyn, New York. These organizations are not only adopting regenerative practices, but they are also helping to educate people on the importance of sustainability and creating programs to put regulations in place.
