About the regenerative retreat

7 Days & 6 Nights | December 6-12, 2024

Discover a remote island off the East Coast of Africa, where the Manta Resort offers a unique and extraordinary experience far from the hustle and bustle of civilization. This is not your typical five-star luxury resort; instead, it offers a sanctuary of serenity, where you can immerse yourself in nature and become part of the close-knit Regenerative Travel global community.

Nestled at the edge of a primitive forest, the resort overlooks the purest turquoise waters that will take your breath away. These waters conceal untouched coral reefs and are bordered by snow-white, soft sands on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Join us at the Manta Resort for an experience that promises tranquility, wonder, and a profound connection with nature.

Our Regenerative Retreat will be led by our learning series course instructor and renowned tourism expert O’Shannon Burns. Throughout this immersive experience, O’Shannon will guide us in co-designing innovative strategies to address the most pressing challenges facing the travel industry today. Participants will engage in collaborative workshops, hands-on activities, and insightful discussions aimed at fostering regenerative practices. By the end of the retreat, each participant will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to become a leader in their community, driving positive change in the travel industry.

Topics we will explore:

  • Adaptation Strategies: Explore best practices for enhancing the climate resilience of tourism businesses and local communities, such as developing disaster preparedness plans and investing in resilient infrastructure.
  • Biodiversity Protection: Discuss initiatives aimed at protecting local biodiversity and natural resources, which are vital for sustaining both the environment and the tourism industry.
  • Local Partnerships: Learn how to build strong partnerships with local communities to support and empower them. This includes sourcing products locally, hiring local staff, and engaging in community-driven projects.
  • Cultural Preservation: Understand the importance of preserving and promoting local culture and heritage through tourism, ensuring that community voices are heard and respected.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Discover the importance of engaging with policymakers, NGOs, and other stakeholders to advocate for policies that support climate action and community development

By connecting with like-minded Regenerative Travel hoteliers and industry professionals, you will foster meaningful collaborations and contribute to shaping the future of sustainable travel. Please note that attendance is strictly limited to invited guests and those who successfully apply, ensuring a gathering of exceptional individuals dedicated to making a positive impact through regenerative tourism.

While at Manta Resort, we will keep our itinerary flexible, adapting to weather conditions and opportunities that arise.  All activities listed in the itinerary are included in the retreat, but schedule may vary.

We will delve into how we can foster inclusivity in the climate movement, and reflect on participation barriers and essential guiding principles for creating transformation and examine insights challenging conventional approaches to climate action and observe initiatives fostering deeper democracy within the movement and society. Through this dialogue, we aim to understand diverse perspectives and chart pathways toward a more inclusive and impactful climate movement.
We’ll confront the tough realities head-on through candid conversations about the climate crisis and its emotional toll, all while delving into ways to use our business models to amplify our voices. We aim to identify areas where essential transformations are occurring and discuss the sources of motivation necessary for sustaining efforts and reflect on what aspects of the discussion ignite passion within us, considering the values needed for effective climate action, including those to embrace, discard, and reclaim from ancestral knowledge.
Explore a range of climate solutions relevant to the travel sector, developed by practitioners in Tanzania and globally. Develop your understanding of the action required to truly address the climate crisis. Through interactive workshops, understand what might be holding your organization back when it comes to climate, and develop your own action plan.
We will explore personal connections to the climate crisis, its impact on daily decisions, and strategies for facing this planetary emergency. We’ll envision a supportive community for healing and brainstorm ways to broaden collective climate action and reflect on the intersection of our roles, skills, and passions, convene with innovative leaders, and discuss how our individual contributions can drive climate solutions.
